Shepherds Huts – Built by Browns

Our client, a farmyard adventure park in Essex, requested a ‘children’s village’ that could be used at Christmas as a ‘winter wonderland’ but repurposed during the summer months as overnight accommodation, complete with log burners and the necessary furniture.

Got questions? We’ve got the answers.

Here are some of the most common questions we get about our shepherds huts. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to get in touch — we’re always happy to help.

Q: Are shepherds huts a good investment?
A: Yes, we think they can be a valuable investment, offering a versatile addition to your property or business that can be used for leisure, accommodation, or even as a rental opportunity (Airbnb).

Q: Can I use the shepherds hut all year round?
A: Absolutely. All our buildings are fully insulated with high-performance materials, double glazing, and ventilation options, making them comfortable throughout every season.

Q: Do I need planning permission for a shepherds hut?
A: In many cases, they can be placed on private land without planning permission if they are intended for incidental use, such as a garden retreat or office. However, local regulations may vary, so it’s advisable to check with your local planning authority. We can help you with this.

Q: Do I need planning permission to let out my shepherds hut?
A: Renting one out as an Airbnb often requires planning permission, especially if it provides sleeping accommodation on a regular basis. Checking local regulations is recommended. We can help you with this.

Q: How much could I make from renting my shepherds hut?
A: The rental cost per night can vary widely depending on location, size, and amenities. Prices typically range from £50 to over £250 per night.

Q: What kind of foundations do you need?
A: We typically use ground screws or concrete bases, depending on your site conditions. Our team will assess your space during the initial survey to recommend the best option. Shepherds huts can also be installed on a chassis or trailer.
